Chocolate Matcha Truffles

Tonight, I am going to the cinema. Normally I wouldn't include my social plans in a blog about healthy eating but, I am going to the cinema with my husband and for him, the cinema equals snacks. In the past he has tended towards mainstream sweets, often of the fizzy and sour variety or sticky milk chocolate. I cannot in all consciousness condone this, as a professional or as a caring wife. Luckily, he is open to any snack for such outings provided they fall into the 'treat' variety. Enter my Chocolate Matcha Truffles.

These truffles tick all of our boxes. Dairy free using coconut oil and coconut milk and high in antioxidants with the 85% dark chocolate and the matcha, they treat you while wearing a halo. An added bonus is that both the dark chocolate and matcha are 'sirt foods'. These foods have been found to activate certain genes in your body called sirtuins which may help lose weight ans gain muscle. This does not mean that I think we are going to walk out of the cinema lighter and leaner from a few truffles, but they do provide a treat with some added benefits.

The recipe below makes 24 truffles and they freeze so please don't eat all of them in one cinema sitting!

Ingredients

300g 85% dark chocolate

240ml coconut milk

3 tbsps coconut oil

1tsp matcha powder

matcha powder and cacao powder to dust

Break the chocolate into small pieces and place in a bowl with the coconut oil. Gently heat the milk in a saucepan (do not allow to boil) and pour over the chocolate and oil. Stir the mixture gently until everything is completely melted.

Stir in the matcha powder then pour into a shallow dish and place in the fridge or freezer to set.

Once set and easy to handle, scoop out the mixture with a teaspoon and shape with the spoons or your hands. Roll in the different powders to coat and leave in the fridge until ready to eat.
